About PDF to JPG: key facts and tips

Key facts

Documently PDF to JPG saves every page of a PDF as a separate JPG image at 100, 150 or 300 DPI. Pages can be downloaded one at a time or together as one ZIP file. DPI sets the pixel count: an A4 page measures 8.27 × 11.69 inches, so the page is about 827 × 1169 pixels at 100 DPI, about 1240 × 1754 at 150 DPI and about 2480 × 3508 at 300 DPI. In our tests, a 6-page PDF became six JPGs of 1240 × 1753 px at 150 DPI in 0.8 seconds. Use 150 DPI for portal uploads and WhatsApp, and 300 DPI for printing. The PDF renderer runs in the browser, so documents such as an Aadhaar card, a PAN card or a DigiLocker certificate are never uploaded. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. To meet a portal limit, convert at 150 DPI, then run the page through Compress Image or Resize Image.

Some portals accept only images, even for documents that you have as a PDF. Admit cards, certificates and e-statements often need to be a JPG to upload, print at a shop, or share on WhatsApp. This tool turns each PDF page into a clear JPG at the resolution you choose, and the conversion happens on your phone or computer, so your document stays private.

When do you need a PDF as JPG images?

  • A form asks for a certificate or ID as JPG, but you downloaded it as a PDF, for example from DigiLocker.
  • Sharing one page of a document on WhatsApp, where images open instantly without a PDF reader.
  • Using a single page, such as a photo ID or caste certificate, inside another document or presentation.
  • Printing at a cyber cafe or photo shop that prefers image files.

Which DPI should you pick?

DPI decides how many pixels each page gets. An A4 page becomes about 827 × 1169 pixels at 100 DPI, 1240 × 1754 pixels at 150 DPI and 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 DPI.

Use 100 DPI for quick sharing and small uploads, 150 DPI for a good balance of clarity and size, and 300 DPI when you need to print or zoom into fine text. A 300 DPI image has nine times the pixels of a 100 DPI one, so the file is much larger.

For WhatsApp, 150 DPI is plenty, because WhatsApp recompresses images sent as photos anyway.

Tips and common problems

  • Image too big for the portal? Convert at 100 or 150 DPI, then use Compress Image to hit an exact KB target.
  • Text looking soft at 100 DPI? Small print, like a roll number on an admit card, needs 150 DPI or more to stay readable.
  • Need just one page? Download that single JPG instead of the whole ZIP.
  • Need a fixed pixel size? Run the JPG through Resize Image afterwards.
  • On a phone, a ZIP may need the Files app to open; downloading pages one by one saves them straight to your gallery or downloads.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can be converted.

How the conversion stays on your device

Pages are drawn by a PDF renderer that runs in your browser, the same kind used to display PDFs on screen, and then saved as JPG. The PDF is never uploaded, which matters for documents like Aadhaar, PAN or bank statements.

We only keep anonymous counts, such as which tool was used and file size, never files or their names.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF to JPG on my phone?

Open this page in your mobile browser, select the PDF, pick 150 DPI for a good balance, and tap Convert. Each page becomes a JPG that you can download individually or as a ZIP. No app or signup is needed, and the PDF stays on your phone.

How do I convert only one page of a PDF to JPG?

Convert the PDF, then download only the page you need from the results instead of the ZIP. If the PDF is very long, you can first use Split PDF to pull out that page, then convert just that small file.

Which DPI gives the clearest image?

300 DPI is the sharpest, giving about 2480 × 3508 pixels for an A4 page, which is ideal for printing. For uploads and WhatsApp, 150 DPI is usually clear enough and produces much smaller files.

Can I convert a DigiLocker PDF to JPG?

Yes, if the PDF opens normally without a password. Select it here and convert as usual. If the file asks for a password when opened, unlock it first with the password in a PDF reader and save an unlocked copy.

Is there a page limit for converting PDF to JPG?

No fixed page limit. Every page is rendered on your device, so very long PDFs at 300 DPI need more memory and time. On older phones, convert at 100 or 150 DPI or split the PDF into smaller parts first.
