About Exam Photo & Signature: key facts and tips

Key facts

Documently Exam Photo & Signature is a free tool that crops, resizes and compresses an exam photo or signature to the exact pixels, KB range and DPI an Indian exam form asks for. The crop box locks to the required shape, and files below the minimum KB are padded without changing the image. Ready presets follow official notices verified on 30 October 2026: IBPS PO 2026 (photo 200 × 230 px, 20–50 KB), NEET UG 2026 (photo 10–200 KB), JEE Main 2027 (photo 10–200 KB), UPSC CSE 2026 (photo 20–200 KB) and SSC CGL 2026 (signature 10–20 KB). In our IBPS PO test, a 5.6 MB phone photo became a 200 × 230 px, 20.3 KB JPG at 200 DPI, inside the official range. The generic passport preset gives 276 × 354 px, which is 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 200 DPI. Everything runs in the browser, with no upload. Open the preset for your exam and download each file.

Exam portals check three things at once: pixel dimensions, file size in KB, and shape. Get one wrong and the upload fails, often minutes before the deadline. This tool locks the crop to the required shape and then produces a JPG that matches all three. Use the generic passport photo and signature settings, edit the KB range yourself, or open a ready preset for your exam.

Which exams and forms need this?

Nearly every Indian recruitment and entrance exam asks for a scanned photo and signature. Limits differ a lot between exams, which is why we keep separate preset pages checked against each official notice.

A few verified examples:

  • IBPS PO: photo 200 × 230 px, 20–50 KB; signature 140 × 60 px, 10–20 KB; left thumb 240 × 240 px, 20–50 KB; handwritten declaration 800 × 400 px, 50–100 KB.
  • NEET UG 2026: photo 10–200 KB, signature 10–100 KB.
  • JEE Main 2027: colour photo 10–200 KB, signature 10–100 KB.
  • UPSC CSE: photo 20–200 KB, triple signature 20–100 KB.
  • SSC CGL: signature 10–20 KB; the photo is captured live, not uploaded.

What the generic presets give you

The passport photo preset makes a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo at 200 DPI. Because 1 inch is 2.54 cm, that works out to 276 × 354 pixels, saved between 20 and 50 KB.

The signature preset makes a 3:1 strip of 300 × 100 pixels between 10 and 20 KB. Both KB ranges can be edited to match any form.

Why do exam photos get rejected?

  • File below the minimum KB: small crops can come out at 6–8 KB. The tool pads the file up to the minimum without changing a single pixel.
  • Face too small or cut off: keep the top of the head and both ears inside the box with a little space above.
  • Blurry signature: sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper and photograph it in daylight, not under a yellow bulb.
  • Using a WhatsApp-forwarded photo: it is already recompressed and looks soft. Use the original camera file.
  • Wrong dates or details on the notice: requirements change each year, so match your preset's verified date to the current notification.

How it works and why your photo stays private

Cropping, resizing and compression all run inside your browser. The crop box works with touch, so you can do everything on a phone in under a minute.

Your photo and signature never leave your device. We only count anonymous usage, like the tool used and file size, never images or names.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize my signature to 10–20 KB for an exam form?

Choose Signature as the upload type, select a clear photo of your signature, and drag the 3:1 crop box tightly around it. The tool outputs a 300 × 100 pixel JPG between 10 and 20 KB. Edit the KB range if your form asks for different limits.

What is the passport size photo size in pixels?

A 3.5 × 4.5 cm passport-style photo is 276 × 354 pixels at 200 DPI and 413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI. Many exam forms list their own pixel size instead, so always follow the dimensions printed in your exam's notification.

My photo is under the minimum KB. How do I increase its size?

This tool does it automatically. When a file comes out smaller than the minimum KB, it adds harmless padding data to the JPG so it reaches the minimum, while the picture and pixel dimensions stay exactly the same. Portals then accept it.

Can I make my exam photo and signature on a mobile phone?

Yes. The page works in any modern mobile browser, and the crop box supports touch, so you can drag and resize it with your finger. Take the photo against a plain light wall, crop it here, and download the ready JPG.

Are the exam presets official?

Each exam preset is checked against the official notification, and the page shows the source link and the date it was verified. We are not affiliated with any exam body, so re-check the latest notice before you submit your form.

Is my photo uploaded to your server?

No. The photo and signature are processed entirely in your browser and saved directly to your device. We do not receive, store or see your images. Only anonymous counts, such as which tool was used and the file size, are recorded.
